For particularly heavy curtains or rods you might want to install wall anchors to mount the brackets securely to the wall.
Height to install curtain rod.
It differs based on a few factors including the style of the window the type of window covering and the height of the ceiling.
Then you can hang your sheer curtain or blackout curtain.
A rule of thumb from architectural digest is that curtains should be hung between 4 to 6 inches above the window frame so install your curtain rod accordingly.
Attach curtain rings if they are part of your setup.
Use a screwdriver to install curtain brackets.
Make sure the sides are even using a level.
Hang the curtains and double check to make sure your brackets are still secure.
Put the main curtain rod in place.

This height will keep the shower curtain from touching the floor.
Hanging curtain rods high above the window frame adds height to the wall and works best with long panels or drapes.
If you re not using a double rod you can skip this step.
Use a level too especially if you live in an old house with less than perfect walls.
Installing curtain rods.
A standard shower curtain is typically 72 inches long so the curtain rod should be installed around 75 to 77 inches from the floor.
When you hang the curtain rod high it will make the window appear taller.
Next mark the locations where the bracket screws will go.
The trickiest part of hanging drapes is knowing where to put the curtain rod.
Insert the back curtain rod if you re using a double rod setup.
Before you install curtain rods decide where you want the bottom of your curtains to fall and use a measuring tape to determine where the top of the curtains will be.
For example on a 54 inch wide window you could extend your curtain rods up to 9 inches on each side 54 divided by three equals 18 so your rod can be up to 72 inches long.
Mark this spot on either side of your casing and use a laser level to make sure your marks are even.
A simple template ensures you hang the curtain rod at the same height for every window and that your rods won t be crooked.
If your curtains have large eye holes thread the rod through the openings.
