How to hang a prehung garage door.
Prehung doors hang on a jamb that is split into two pieces.
To install set the corner pieces on the sill then place the middle piece over top.
If there s interior trim remove that from the door as well.
When the fit looks right apply pvc cement where the middle piece will overlap the corner pieces and press it into place.
Typically both jambs are furnished with casings already attached.
Have another person hold the pre hung door in place while you install wooden shims where necessary.
Avoid damage to the screws by using a hand screwdriver.
The top leg should slide up behind the housewrap or tarpaper that s behind the siding.
If it s too wide cut the ends with a hacksaw.
Slide the pre hung door into the rough opening.
Set it in the rough opening then level shim and nail it.
The door should be square.

Insert the lockset tailpieces through the latch bolt and screw the handles together by tightening the retaining screws.
Then add the center door shims.
Cut off the shims at the edges of the jambs.
Place door shims at the top and bottom hinge locations using a long level or a straight board and a short level.
The split jamb has a groove under the stop so it can slide over the edge of the main jamb.
Use shims on the side of the door with the hinges to remove the gaps between the trimmer stud and the door frame.
