I am installing a metal hip roof and am concerned about the possibility of leakage around the hip caps seams.
Take care the first piece is aligned precisely perpendicular square to the edge.
Now that we ve installed panel on both sides of the hip we can install the hip cap.

The ridge cap covers the seams but leaves gaps underneath due to the ridged profile of the roofing.
Take your first sheet of metal and place it on the roof so that it overhangs the edge at least 3 4 in 1 9 cm.
Also since most standing seam roofs installed are made out of steel the granular surface of asphalt shingles will rub against underside of the metal roofing panels and thus will likely scratch through the paint and galvanized layer which could cause metal panels to rust from underneath.
What can i do to seal these gaps.
All you have to do is install the sections interlocking each one and screwing it down with sealed screw then your done.
Align the first metal roofing panel so that it overlaps the edging by 1 2 to 3 4 of an inch and is square to the roof line.
